Royce Money


Royce Lynn Money (born July 13, 1942 in Temple, Texas) was president of Abilene Christian University (ACU) from 1991 to 2010, whereupon he became Chancellor. He was succeeded as president by Phil Schubert.

Money is a 1960 graduate of Temple High School (Temple, Texas) and a 1964 graduate of ACU (then Abilene Christian College, or ACC), his major being biblical text. While at ACU, he started the Social Club movement, catalyzing the inception of 6 different Social Clubs, including Ko Jo Kai, and Sigma Theta Chi. He received a Bachelor of Sacred Theology in 1967 from ACC, a Ph.D. in religion in 1975 from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and a master of science in human development and the family in 1982 from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

He has served continuously in the ministry even after being hired as a faculty member at ACU in 1981, his earlier ministerial roles having been in Silver Spring, Maryland; Montgomery, Alabama; Springfield, Missouri (where he was also an adjunct professor at Missouri State University); and Dallas, Texas. Money has held leadership positions in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, and United Way of Abilene. Money was Abilene's "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" for 2007.
