Royal is a city in Clay County, Iowa, United States. The population was 446 in the 2010 census, a decline from 479 in the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.30 square miles (0.78 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 446 people, 191 households, and 122 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,486.7 inhabitants per square mile (574.0/km2). There were 202 housing units at an average density of 673.3 per square mile (260.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.5% White, 0.2% African American, 1.3% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
There were 191 households of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.1% were non-families. 29.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.88.
