Ron François was initially a member of the English R&B band The Strutters before joining the Lene Lovich band to record her top 3 UK hit "Lucky Number" and her debut album Stateless. After the Be Stiff Route 78 Tour of 1978, he left to become a founder member of The Sinceros (1978–1981). They made two albums for Epic Records, The Sound of Sunbathing and Pet Rock, before their demise in 1981. François then joined The Teardrop Explodes and stayed with Epic Records, releasing a solo single, "If You Love Me".

In 1982, he recorded the album This Island with the Eurogliders before departing to join them and live in Australia. The album included the hit single "Heaven (Must Be There)". He recorded on their next LP, Absolutely before parting company in 1987. Since then, he has worked with local artists Absent Friends and Wendy Matthews, playing on her 1990 album Émigré which included the singles "Token Angels", "Woman's Gotta Have It" and "Let's Kiss (Like Angels Do)" and was in her touring band for several years.

In recent years, François has collaborated on several albums with West Australian drummer, Murray Campbell's 'Beatworld' project. He also runs a recording studio on the Central Coast of New South Wales.
