YQG Rocks is a Windsor, Ontario based entertainment website that reports on music, Theatre, popular culture and community news. It began as Rockstar Weekly (written as RockStar Weekly or RSW) in 2009, a Canadian national music website, originally operated out of Surrey, British Columbia.
RockStar Weekly began in early 2009 as a heavy metal website in support of a radio program and online radio station. Shortly after launching, the website quickly developed into one of a few Canadian heavy metal websites while becoming part of Fixion Media, a vertical music advertising network, which it still maintains a relationship with.
In late 2009, RockStar Weekly made the shift to a broader based music and popular culture website (while maintaining coverage of heavy metal bands) and published a special edition magazine for fans of the popular American Idol Season 8 contestant Adam Lambert. The magazine, which featured articles about the fans rather than Lambert himself, sold out quickly and RSW reported that $1 from each issue would be donated in memory of Lambert fan Terri Sanvicente, who was murdered in her house at Christmas 2009.
In July, 2010, RockStar Weekly announced the launch of a new Canadian music and popular culture magazine called RockStar Weekly Mini-Mags, a free online flipbook.
On May 24, 2011 RockStar Weekly made it onto the Top 100 Music Blogs list at blog and website search engine Technorati.
In January, 2017, RockStar Weekly changed its name and domain to YQG Rocks and shifted operations to Windsor, Ontario to offer local entertainment news in the city. It ceased to publish mini-mags at that time and currently operates as a website only.
