Rijnsburg Abbey


Rijnsburg Abbey, was a Roman Catholic convent for females of the Benedictine Order in Rijnsburg, Netherlands. It operated from 1133 until 1574.

The Abbey was founded by Petronilla of Lorraine, regent of Holland, in 1133. The Abbey was under the protection of the countesses of Holland and accepted only female members of the nobility as members: it became the most prestigious convent for women in Holland and very wealthy on donations during the centuries. It was pillaged in 1574.
