Rice Township is a township in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,335 at the 2010 census. There is a neighborhood called Laural Lakes and many other smaller neighborhoods in the area. Law enforcement is provided by the Rice Twp Police and they currently employ 6 Full Time Officers.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 11.2 square miles (28.9 km2), of which 10.9 square miles (28.3 km2) is land and 0.23 square miles (0.6 km2), or 2.24%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,460 people, 907 households, and 696 families residing in the township. The population density was 222.0 people per square mile (85.7/km2). There were 950 housing units at an average density of 85.7/sq mi (33.1/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 96.67% White, 0.49% African American, 2.03% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.67% of the population.
There were 907 households, out of which 37.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.6% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 19.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the township the population was spread out, with 26.7% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
