Republic was founded in 1871. It was named from Republic County.
Republic is located at 39°55′25″N 97°49′21″W / 39.92361°N 97.82250°W (39.923636, -97.822412). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.26 square miles (0.67 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 116 people, 61 households, and 34 families residing in the city. The population density was 446.2 inhabitants per square mile (172.3/km2). There were 95 housing units at an average density of 365.4 per square mile (141.1/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.7% White, 3.4% Native American, and 0.9% from two or more races.
There were 61 households of which 14.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.3% were non-families. 39.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
