Release from Agony is the third studio album by German thrash metal band Destruction, released in 1988 by Steamhammer/SPV. The album is mostly noted for its usage of complexity and technicality in the songs. It was the first Destruction album to feature four members.

Some of the album's lyrics narrate themes that deal with political topics, such as government and corruption. Others deal with horror themes, like murder and nightmares.

"Release from Agony" paints the picture of someone trying to escape from an evil entity that threatens to kill him in his dreams.

"Dissatisfied Existence" tells how the protagonist has "gone about his own affairs" but yet is still faced with "other person's problems". Through it all, he is trying to find the "meaning of his life".

"Sign of Fear" talks about the turmoil of bad relationships and unrequited love.

"Unconscious Ruins" tells how people can "fade into the crowd" and easily be manipulated toward their a certain fate.

"Incriminated" makes reference to Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. More specifically, it asks some why the people of Germany are still asked to repent for events that happened forty years earlier.

"Our Oppression" bashes the weaknesses of democracy and states that we do not justly elect officials when they can easily be won over with bribes, thereby taking freedom from us.

"Survive to Die" explains how the protagonist is fed up with the everything the antagonist has done and is plotting to kill him.

All tracks written by Destruction.
