Rajendra Arlekar was a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Goa and a former speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly. He is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party. He held the portfolios of Forest, Environment and Panchayat.
He was born on 23 April 1954 in Panaji, Goa, India, to Vishwanath and Tilottama Arlekar. He is a graduate in commerce. He has been a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
His father, Vishwanath Arlekar, was a social worker. His wife Anagha is a teacher.
Arelkar has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since his childhood. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1989.
Rajendra Arlekar has served as the President of the Goa unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was also the General Secretary of the party's state unit and the President of the South Goa district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He contested the Goa Legislative Assembly election, 2007 from the same constituency but had to suffer defeat. Arlekar contested and won the Goa Legislative Assembly election, 2012 from the Pernem constituency,which was reserved for the Scheduled Castes.
After the Goa Legislative Assembly election, 2012, Arlekar was sworn in as the Speaker of the State Legislature. During his term as the Speaker.
