He entered the state team when he was 11. He picked up the sport because following the footsteps of his brothers. In 1977, he was national junior (MSSM) champion under 12. He was also under 18 national champion (MSSM) with his brother Rashid. At 18 years old after high school, he was drafted to the national squad. At the junior stage, he was concentrating on singles but he played both categories. Few years later, BAM forced him to play doubles since there's not enough doubles players.

He is an international doubles player during the late 1980s to early 1990s. He managed to win a number of international title such as the Canadian Open and German Open with partner Ong Ewe Chye (Ong Ewe Hock's brother). He retired because his partner quit the sport and the national management forces him to become a coach for the national doubles team.
