Lieutenant General Praveen Bakshi PVSM, AVSM, VSM, is the 25th and present General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Indian Army's Eastern Command at Kolkata. Prior, he was chief of staff of the Northern Command based at Udhampur. He succeeded Lt Gen Man Mohan Singh Rai who is appointed as the Vice Chief of Army Staff at the Headquarter of Indian Army in New Delhi.
He is a graduate of National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla.
He was commissioned into the Skinner's Horse regiment. He headed several formations of Indian Army including an armored brigade in the western sector, and corps in the Punjab and J&K sectors. On being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, he was appointed as the commander of IX Corps based at Dharamsala and later served as the chief of staff of the Northern Command based at Udhampur. On promotion to the scale of army commander, Lt Gen Bakshi took charge as the GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command.
He was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal on 26 January 2017.
