Pothaturpettai is a panchayat town in Thiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has an area of 8.86 km2
As of 2001[update] India census, Podhaturpettai, which is also spelled Podhattoorpet (normally referred to as Podaturpet) had a population of 18,698. But the population of Pothatturpettai on May 2014 is approximately 32,600. (Extrapolated from a population of 18,200 on December 30, 2010 and a population of 20,000 on June 15, 2011.) Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Podhaturpettai has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 45%.
