Pocono Township is a township in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, United States. Township government is located in the village of Tannersville, Pennsylvania, near the site of the popular Camelback Water Beach & Ski Area, which is located in Pocono and the adjacent Jackson Township. The top of the ski area is within Big Pocono State Park, which is maintained by resort staff. The population was 9,607 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.4 square miles (89.1 km2), of which, 34.2 square miles (88.6 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km2) of it (0.55%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 9,607 people, 3,503 households, and 2,634 families residing in the township. The population density was 280.8 people per square mile (108.4/km2). There were 4,250 housing units at an average density of 124.2/sq mi (48.0/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 90.21% White, 4.10% African American, 0.15% Native American, 1.33% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 2.25% from other races, and 1.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.70% of the population.
