Playboi Carti is the eponymous debut commercial mixtape by American rapper Playboi Carti. It was released on April 14, 2017, by AWGE Records and Interscope Records. The mixtape features guest appearances from Lil Uzi Vert, ASAP Rocky, and Leven Kali. It was supported by three singles – "Lookin'", "wokeuplikethis*" featuring Lil Uzi Vert and "Magnolia", which has peaked at number 29 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Carti's highest-charting single. The physical version was released October 6th, 2017.
HipHopDX critic Narshima Chintaluri described the record as "simply a glorified beat tape with ad-libs", stating: "He’ll need to further develop his songwriting in order to maintain this allure alongside his more successful contemporaries". Brian Duricy of PopMatters stated: "Over the production, however, you’re not getting particularly much." Duricy also further described the record as "the sonic equivalent of the stereotypical laissez-faire worker who breezes through presentations on sheer personality alone".Pitchfork's Briana Younger was positive in her assessment of the mixtape, writing: "Playboi Carti feels like a break from life, the soundtrack to a mindless good time. Women, money and all types of drugs are everywhere, but mostly Carti’s just flexing so that his listeners can do the same." The single "Magnolia" was awarded Best New Track by Pitchfork.
Playboi Carti debuted at number 12 on the US Billboard 200, with 28,000 album-equivalent units, of which 21,000 were streaming units and 7,000 were pure album sales. As of September 2017 the mixtape has moved over 367,000 units
