Peroorkada is a residential locality in the Municipal Corporation of Thiruvananthapuram (previously Trivandrum) in the state of Kerala, India, It is located 7 km, north east, from Thiruvananthapuram Central Bus Station and on the way to Nedumangad and Ponmudi. Roads from Mannanthala, Vattiyoorkavu, Nedumangad and Ambalamukku meet at Peroorkada. Once a village, Peroorkada has seen rapid development over the last four decades with the setting up of a hospitals, shopping complexes and petrol pumps. Now Thiruvananthapuram District collectors office have been shifted near to this locality named kudappanakunnu. This area is now the Ward 31 of the Corporation of Thiruvananthapuram and the elected Ward member is Prof. Chandra. J.
Peroorkada was earlier known as Maruthanmoodu after a giant Maruthan tree located in the town's center. Maruthanmoodu later acquired the name "Peroorkada" from the nearby town, which itself was named after a holy shrine, the Peroor Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, located there. Later the location of the shrine acquired a new title, Ambalamukku, and so the town.
Prominent institutions at Peroorkada include the Hindustan Latex Ltd, Peroorkada Government Hospital, Oolampara Mental Hospital, ESI Hospital, Peroorkada police station, the Peroorkada Market, several schools, a Law Academy and the local post office. The area have seen a rapid rise in urbanisation with the setting up of the new civil station at Kudappanakunnu. Peroorkada's public transport needs are serviced by comprehensive city bus services. There are two stadiums, several temples, few churches and one mosque.
There are many Gulf-returnees, as well as educated Malayalis from other parts of Kerala who made the locality their home. This gives the place an urban feel, though, like in most other places of Kerala, still not cosmopolitan enough.
Many locals from the Peroorkada region, includingChempakamoodu, Abhaya Nagar Residence Association, Ambalamukku, Oolampara, Mannammoola, NCC Nagar, Ambala nagar colony, Kudappanakunnu, Indira Nagar, AKG Nagar, Mannammoola and Mannanthala are now successful professionals or personalities by themselves across the world.
