Peravurani (பேராவூரணிis a panchayat town in Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of the Peravurani Taluk. It is a selection grade town panchayat.
Peravurani is located at 10°18′N 79°11′E / 10.3°N 79.18°E. It has an average elevation of 16 metres (52 feet).
At the 2001 India census, Peravurani had a population of 21,025. Males constituted 49% of the population and females 51%. Peravurani has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 63%. In Peravurani, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Peravurani means "big pond", deriving from the Tamil words periya meaning big and oorani meaning a pond or a tank.This water body can be viewed within the vicinity of the town.
It is so crowded during the festival that one cannot enter into the temple premises. The nearest airport Tiruchirappalli lies about 96.5 km northwest of the town and it has its own railway station with local trains connecting Karaikkudi and Mayiladuthurai but for longer travels you have depend upon on Thanjavur station which is 69.7 km or Tiruchirapalli which is 103 km.
