Penrose is an unincorporated town and a census-designated place (CDP) in Fremont County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,582 as of the 2010 census. The Penrose Post Office has the ZIP code 81240.

Thc community was named after Spencer Penrose.

Penrose is located in eastern Fremont County at 38°25′36″N 105°0′27″W / 38.42667°N 105.00750°W / 38.42667; -105.00750 (38.426756, -105.007568).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.8 square miles (46.2 km2), all of it land.

Penrose gets its water from Brush Hollow Reservoir, located to the west in Brush Hollow State Wildlife Area.

As of the census of 2010, there were 3,582 people, 1,454 households, and 1,044 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 107.2 people per square mile (41.3/km²). There were 1,575 housing units at an average density of 47.2 per square mile (18.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.7% White, 0.2% African American, 1.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 1.1% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races.
