Pennfield Charter Township is a charter township of Calhoun County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of the Battle Creek, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,001 at the 2010 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.1 square miles (90.9 km2), of which 34.2 square miles (88.7 km2) is land and 0.85 square miles (2.2 km2), or 2.38%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,913 people, 3,532 households, and 2,468 families residing in the township. The population density was 256.3 per square mile (98.9/km²). There were 3,764 housing units at an average density of 108.2 per square mile (41.8/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 92.80% White, 4.35% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 1.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.65% of the population.
There were 3,532 households out of which 31.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.9% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 25.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.01.
