In the 2006and 2001state assembly elections, Jajneswar Das of CPI(M) won the Pathapratima assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Samir Kumar Jana of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Gopal Krishna Dey of Congress won the seat in 1996defeating Janmejay Manna of CPI(M). In 1991 Janmejay Manna of CPI(M) defeated Banabehari Patra of Congress. Gunadhar Maity of CPI(M) won the seat in 1987, 1982 and 1977 defeating Ananta Kumar Bera of Congress.
Satya Ranjan Bapuly of Congress won in 1972.Rabin Mondal of SUC won in 1971,1969and 1967(shown as Independent in 1967 in Election Commission records). Prior to that the Patharpratima constituency was not there.
