Park received a bachelor's degree in geography from Kyung Hee University. She is a member of the National Assembly and was the elected floor leader of New Politics Alliance for Democracy between May and October 2014.

Park was a MBC TV reporter before becoming a politician in 2004. In 2014, she was elected the first female floor leader of a major opposition party in Korea.

Park crafted "The Specific Criminal Profits Forfeiture Bill" which is so-called "Lee Hak-soo bill" on February 16, 2015. She said that she had promoted the bill to confiscate illegal profits in an effort to realize "social justice."

Park is widely known as an anti-gay politician. At a February 2016 National Breakfast Prayer meeting Park referred to LGBT rights as “against nature and against God,” vowing to oppose any future legislation that would protect sexual minorities from discrimination. In 2016 she placed first on the Rainbow Vote list of 22 most homophobic politicians.
