Pantheon is a leading global private markets investor, with a specialism in private equity. Pantheon operates through a series of fund of funds as well as a publicly traded private equity vehicle, Pantheon International Participations. Pantheon manages regional primary investments, global secondary and infrastructure investments and customised separate account programmes.
Pantheon has over 190 employees with more than US$30.8 billion in assets under management (as of March 31, 2015). The firm has operated as a subsidiary of Affiliated Managers Group Inc. ("AMG") since its acquisition in early 2010.
Originally formed in 1982 as the private equity investment division of GT Management in London, Pantheon's management acquired the private equity division in 1988 through a management buyout. Pantheon was then acquired by Russell Investments, an investment management subsidiary of Northwestern Mutual, in 2004.
In 2010, Pantheon was acquired by Affiliated Managers Group ("AMG"), a NYSE-listed asset management company with shareholdings in a diverse group of over 30 mid-sized asset management firms. Pantheon's management acquired a share of the equity in the transaction and is expected to maintain independent management of its business.
Pantheon develops and implements private equity investment strategies for more than 400 institutional investors globally, including public and private pension plans, endowments, foundations, and family offices.
Pantheon International plc (: ) is a large British publicly traded private equity fund of funds investment trust managed by Pantheon Ventures. Established in 1987, PIP was the first private equity fund-of-funds investment trust and was formerly a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
