The newspaper was started on 1 November 1988.The news paper is now led by Zahid Malik and his three sons and a daughter Faisal Zahid Malik, Gauhar Zahid Malik, Omar Zahid Malik and Sadia Zahid Malik. The head office is in the capital city Islamabad and it has 4 other offices in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Muzafarabad. Mr Abdus Sattar former Foreign Minister is the lead current affairs analyst of this newspaper.He focuses on international security.
