Ossian (pronounced|ˈosh-ain) is a city in Winneshiek County, Iowa, United States. The population was 845 at the 2010 census.

Ossian was platted in 1855. It was named for its founder, John Ossian Porter.

Ossian is located at 43°8′47″N 91°45′50″W / 43.14639°N 91.76389°W / 43.14639; -91.76389 (43.146498, -91.763842).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.11 square miles (2.87 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 845 people, 339 households, and 223 families residing in the city. The population density was 761.3 inhabitants per square mile (293.9/km2). There were 360 housing units at an average density of 324.3 per square mile (125.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.5% White, 0.2% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.3% of the population.

There were 339 households of which 28.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.2% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.91.
