Orient is a city in Orient Township, Adair County, Iowa, United States. The population was 408 at the 2010 census.
Orient had its start in the year 1879 by the building of the railroad through that territory.
Orient is located at 41°12′10″N 94°25′8″W / 41.20278°N 94.41889°W (41.202702, -94.418794).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.45 square miles (1.17 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 408 people, 169 households, and 118 families residing in the city. The population density was 906.7 inhabitants per square mile (350.1/km2). There were 186 housing units at an average density of 413.3 per square mile (159.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.0% White, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 169 households of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 30.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.92.
