Norway competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, represented by Jostein Hasselgård with the song "I'm Not Afraid To Move On". The song was chosen as the Norwegian entry for the 2003 contest through the Melodi Grand Prix contest.
The 2003 edition of Melodi Grand Prix, organised by Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), was used to select the Norwegian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, held in Riga, Latvia, on 24 May 2003. The 2003 Melodi Grand Prix was held on 1 March at the Spektrum Arena in Oslo, hosted by Øystein Bache.
12 songs competed in the contest, with televoting selecting the winner of the contest. Two rounds of televoting were held to select the winner - the first round of televoting selected the top 4 songs through points being allocated to each song based on the number of televotes in each televoting region of Norway. The top 4 songs progressed to the "Gold Final", where another round of televoting, this time not regional, selected the final winner.
After being relegated from competing at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 Norway returned to the contest in 2003, at Riga. Jostein Hasselgård performed 18th on the night of the contest, following Greece and preceding France. After leading at the start of the voting Norway finished with 123 points, coming 4th of the 26 competing countries. This guaranteed Norway automatic qualification to the final of the 2004 Contest.
