North Mankato is a city in Nicollet and Blue Earth counties in the State of Minnesota. The population was 13,394 at the 2010 census.
While most of the city is in Nicollet County, it extends into Blue Earth County a small amount as well. It is neighbored to the south across the Minnesota River by Mankato. The two cities have a combined population of over 54,000. North Mankato is the smaller of the two principal cities of the Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area, a metropolitan area that covers Blue Earth and Nicollet counties.
North Mankato was incorporated as a village in 1898.
U.S. Highways 14 and 169 and Minnesota State Highway 60 are three of the main routes in the city.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.99 square miles (15.51 km2), of which 5.87 square miles (15.20 km2) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.31 km2) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 13,394 people, 5,580 households, and 3,553 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,281.8 inhabitants per square mile (881.0/km2). There were 5,864 housing units at an average density of 999.0 per square mile (385.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.9% White, 2.1% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.8% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.0% of the population.
