Noney

Noney, also known as Longmai, is a town located 63 km west of Imphal, the capital of Manipur. Longmai is a large village located in Nungba of Tamenglong district, but recently Longmai has officially been declared as one of the new district headquarters of Manipur, separated from the existing Tamenglong District which now comprises Haochong, Khoupum, Nungba, and Longmai subdivision. With the coming land demarcation, some upgrades may take place.

Noney is inhabited by the Zeliangrong community, mostly the Rongmei tribe, with a total of 635 families. The village has a population of 3,854 of which 2,140 are males and 1,714 are females according to the 2011 census. In the village, the population of children 6 years or younger is 456, which makes up 11.83% of the total population. The average sex ratio here is 801, which is lower than the Manipur state average of 985. Child sex ratio for Noney as per the 2011 census is 861, which is lower than the Manipur average of 930. Noney has a higher literacy rate than Manipur as a whole. In 2011 the literacy rate of Noney was 86.90% compared to 76.94% of Manipur. Male literacy was 93.40% while female literacy rate was 78.71%.

As per the Constitution of India and the Panchyati Raj Act, Noney is administrated by Sarpanch (head of the village) who is the elected representative of the village. People often describe the place as a village, but it has recently grown into a town, numbered with different people from different parts of Tamenglong. It is also considered the fastest developing place in Tamenglong district. It is a commercial location for every village around the Nungba and many other divisions of the district. The temperatures are slightly high compared to other places in Manipur, due to the clearing of hills for the development of railway track and sub-station. But as far as the knowledge is concerned its the best places in the whole district for a river flow in the middle of the town, making it possible for every developing segment.

Nationalist Congress Party, Indian National Congress, Naga People's Front, Manipur State Congress Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party are the major political parties in this area.
