Neyruz is a municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland.
Neyruz is first mentioned in 1137 as Nuerus. In 1138 it was mentioned as Nuruos. The municipality was formerly known by its German name Rauschenbach, however, that name is no longer used.
Neyruz has an area, as of 2009[update], of 5.5 square kilometers (2.1 sq mi). Of this area, 3.2 km2 (1.2 sq mi) or 57.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.44 km2 (0.56 sq mi) or 26.0% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.85 km2 (0.33 sq mi) or 15.3% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.04 km2 (9.9 acres) or 0.7% is either rivers or lakes and 0.01 km2 (2.5 acres) or 0.2% is unproductive land.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 7.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 5.6%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 40.8% is used for growing crops and 16.1% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.
The municipality is located in the Sarine district, on the left bank of the Glane river.
The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Argent a Bar Gules couped in bend sinister between three Roses of the same seeded proper.
Neyruz has a population (as of December 2015[update]) of 2,572. As of 2008[update], 13.7% of the population are resident foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years (2000–2010) the population has changed at a rate of 33.5%. Migration accounted for 26.9%, while births and deaths accounted for 8.7%.
Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (1,498 or 89.9%) as their first language, German is the second most common (113 or 6.8%) and Italian is the third (12 or 0.7%). There are 3 people who speak Romansh.
