Grendon is a village in Warwickshire, England. It is located 2 miles From Atherstone and 3 Miles from Tamworth. The Village is centred on the A5 (Watling Street), The village has post office, public house and a newsagents. The village is often called New Grendon to distinguish it from the other Grendon a mile away. Population details are included in Baddesley Ensor.
Seven men from Grendon were among the 32 killed in the 1882 explosion at Baddesley Pit. Some of these men are buried in the graveyard of All Saints Church in Old Grendon.
Grendon was spawned from the mine that once existed in Baxterley, Grendon was originally a small hamlet called Suckle green and Construction of Grendon didn't start fully until the 1950s. Grendon is named after the Older village of Grendon about a mile away. The mine at Baxterley that Grendon was built to serve closed in 1989.
Grendon forms a civil parish along with the village of Old Grendon.
When The Village was built in the 1950s it was part of the Atherstone Rural District. In 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 the Atherstone Rural District became part of the newly formed district of North Warwickshire. Inside North Warwickshire Grendon is part of the Baddesley and Grendon Ward and is represented by John Moore and Ray sweed who are both Labour. As the ward is an old mining community it is considered a Labour safe seat. Grendon is covered by the Baddesley Ensor Ward in Warwickshire County Council and is also reprisented by Ray Sweet.
It is part of the North Warwickshire constituency and the current MP is Conservative Dan Byles, it is also part of the West Midlands European Parliament constituency which is represented by 6 MEPs.
