New Bloomington was originally named Carey Station, and under the latter name was laid out in 1856.

New Bloomington is located at 40°35′4″N 83°18′57″W / 40.58444°N 83.31583°W / 40.58444; -83.31583 (40.584557, -83.315875).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.44 square miles (1.14 km2), all land.
