Muhammad Safdar Awan (Urdu: محمد صفدر اعوان) is a Pakistani politician and retired army officer who has been an elected member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since 2008. A member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N). Safdar is the president of the PML-N Youth Wing.
He is the husband of Maryam Nawaz and son in law of the current Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.
Safdar married Maryam Nawaz in 1992 while he was serving as captain in Pakistan Army.
Safdar is a retired Pakistan Army officer with the rank of captain.
Safdar served as assistant commissioner Lahore Model Town.
In Pakistani general election, 2008 by-elections held in June 2008, Safdar was elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the first time on PML-N ticket from constituency Rawalpindi.
In 2012, Safdar was suspended the membership of PML-N.
In Pakistani general election, 2013, Safdar was elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the second time on PML-N ticket from constituency Mansehra.
Safdar is the president of the PML-N Youth Wing.
In May 2016, Safdar was reported to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by Imran Khan for concealing Maryam Nawaz' assets. Safdar denied that however was summoned by ECP in June 2016.
In 2012, Safdar publicly supported Islamic fundamentalist Mumtaz Qadri who assassinated former Governor of Punjab Salmaan Taseer for speaking against the blasphemy law.
