Monessen City School District is a tiny, urban, public school district operating in southwestern Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It serves the city of Monessen, Pennsylvania. The School District of the City of Monessen encompasses approximately 2 square miles (5.2 km2). According to 2000 federal census data, it serves a resident population of 8,670. In 2010, the population of the District had decline to 7,717 people. In 2009, the District residents’ per capita income was $16,627, while the median family income was $37,269. School District of the City of Monessen received more than $7.9 million in state funding in school year 2007-08. According to school district administrative officials, during the 2003-04 school year, the district provided basic educational services to 1,096 pupils through the employment of 5 administrators, 87 teachers, and 40 full-time and part-time support personnel. Special education was provided by the district and the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit #7. Occupational training and adult education in various vocational and technical fields were provided by the district and the Mon Valley Career and Technology Center.
School District of the City of Monessen operates three schools: Monessen Elementary Center (K–5), Monessen Middle School (6–8) and Monessen City High School (9-12). The middle school and high school share a single building. The District uses the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit #7 for services to special education students and faculty training.
