The Mohammad Hassani (or Mamasanis) are a large Baloch tribe (Sunni Muslims) living in the Pakistan districts of Chagai, Kharan, Washuk, Kalat, Awaran, Khuzdar, Quetta, Nushki, Mastung, Panjgur and Makran in Balochistan and Sindh and Panjab. They also have notable presence in Helmand Province (Afghanistan), Zahedan (Iran) and Iraq. According to some estimates, their population is 55,000 in Pakistan. They are known as the largest tribe of Baloch. They speak several languages including Balochi, Brahui, and Persian.
Sardar Arif Jan mohammad hassani of Mashkay headed the tribe for many years till he was killed in a tribal clash. The current tribal chief of the Mohammad Hassanis in Pakistan is Sardar Shahbaz Khan Hassani the grandson of Sardar Arif Jan Mohammad Hassani and son of former sardar, sardar Rustom Khan Mohammad Hasni (the older son of sardar Arif Jan) who died from a heart attack but most of the mohammad hassani around Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan and other subtribes are loyal to Sardarzada Mir Ali Haider mohammad hassani of Mashkey (the younger son of Sardar Arif Jan Shaheed). Also a well known personality of mohammad hassani tribe is sardar fateh mohammad hassani (politician and sardar of a sub tirbe) and his younger brother mir arif jan mohammad hassani. There are many subtribes of Mohammad Hassnis and every sub tribe has a sardar (sub sardar) who is meant to be loyal to their main sardar (shabaz khan), namely Durrakzai (largest), Kalmalizai, Harooni, Mandawzai, Eidozai, Chakarzai, Bakhalzai, Zeerkari, Nazarzai, Khiyyazai and Shahaqzai and many others and some Mohammad Hassanis take Hazrat Abbas (uncle of Prophet Mohammad) as their ancestor, hence some of them (those who live in Panjab) like to be called Abbasi.
