Miss America's Outstanding Teen state pageants

Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageants select the representative for each state for the Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant.

Although Miss America state pageants used to run unofficial teen competitions, Miss America's Outstanding Teen was the first official teen pageant associated with the Miss America Organization and the first for which there was a national competition. The first national pageant was held in August 2005 in Orlando, Florida.

Unlike the Miss America pageant, there is no swimwear component of the teen competition: contestants compete in interview, evening wear, active wear, and talent.

The Georgia pageant is held the same week as Miss Georgia, generally late June, in Columbus. This gives the titleholder less than two months to prepare for the national pageant.

Miss Nebraska's Outstanding Teen is held in North Platte, Nebraska on the same day and in the same venue as the Miss Nebraska pageant. The winner of the pageant receives a $1,000 savings bond, and the first runner-up receives $500. The winner is also given the opportunity to perform her talent during the finals of the Miss Nebraska pageant.

Each titleholder has her own platform which she supports throughout the state during her reign. Kayla Batt's platform is music education. The travel involved in the titleholder's schedule is relatively costly, so fundraising schemes are developed to meet the cost of appearances and involvement in the national pageant.

Kayla Batt, Miss Nebraska's Outstanding Teen 2007, was the first titleholder from the Nebraska Panhandle, and her sister titleholder Ashley Bauer was also the first Miss Nebraska from the panhandle since 1971.

The Miss Oregon's Outstanding Teen Pageant is held during Miss Oregon Pageant Week in Seaside, Oregon. The state pageant is normally held in late June or early July with the teen pageant taking place on Friday night of pageant week.
