Misery-Courtion is a municipality in the district of See in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It was formed on January 1, 1997 by the union of the villages of Misery, Courtion, Cormérod, and Cournillens.
Misery-Courtion has an area of 11.41 km2 (4.41 sq mi). Of this area, 8.6 km2 (3.3 sq mi) or 75.4% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.98 km2 (0.76 sq mi) or 17.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.82 km2 (0.32 sq mi) or 7.2% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.03 km2 (7.4 acres) or 0.3% is either rivers or lakes.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.4%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 53.3% is used for growing crops and 20.7% is pastures, while 1.4% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.
The municipality is located in the See/Lac district.
The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Per bend Or and Gules overall a Quatrefoil Vert slipped. The four leaved clover stands for the four former municipalities of Cormerod, Cournillens, Courtion and Misery.
Misery-Courtion has a population (as of December 2015[update]) of 1,835. As of 2008[update], 13.7% of the population are resident foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years (2000–2010) the population has changed at a rate of 17.5%. Migration accounted for 10.8%, while births and deaths accounted for 4.5%.
Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (1,064 or 86.4%) as their first language, German is the second most common (114 or 9.3%) and Portuguese is the third (14 or 1.1%). There are 6 people who speak Italian.
