Meyrem Almaci (born 25 February 1976, in Sint-Niklaas) is a Turkish-Belgian (double nationality) Flemish, politician and member of the ecological party Groen!. On 10 June 2007, she was elected into the Belgian Chamber of Representatives for the first time. In 2010, she was re-elected.
She is the leader of Groen! (and Ecolo) in the Belgian Chamber of Representatives.
Almaci a master's degree in comparative cultural science from Ghent University. In 2000, she founded the Agalev section Sint-Gillis-Waas and she became councillor in the same year. She has worked as a scientific worker in research projects at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven as from 2002 about study choices and the study success of immigrants in higher studies. In 2006, she moved to Berchem, a district of Antwerp, where she has become district Councillor.
Almaci was born to a Turkish immigrant family hailing from Kozluçay in Yalvaç, Isparta Province. She had 10 siblings, two of whom died young. She has dual Turkish-Belgian citizenship and is married with two children.
