The Mayor of Turin is an elected politician who, along with the Turin’s City Council of 50 members, is accountable for the strategic government of Turin, northern Italy. Since June 2016, Chiara Appendino holds the position. Previously, the position was held by Piero Fassino since 2011.

In 1814 the Kingdom of Sardinia created the office of the Mayor of Turin (Sindaco di Torino), chosen by the Turin's city council until 1848, when the mayors were chose directly by citizens. After the creation of the Kingdom of Italy, the Mayor of Turin was elected as continuation of the previous office created during the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. The Fascist dictatorship abolished mayors and City councils in 1926, replacing them with an authoritarian Podestà chosen by the National Fascist Party.

From 1945 to 1993, the Mayor of Turin was chosen by the City council. Since 1993, under provisions of new local administration law, the Mayor of Turin is chosen by popular election, originally every four, and since 2001 every five year.

The election took place in two rounds: the first on 27 April and the second on 11 May

The main candidates were Raffaele Costa, supported by Silvio Berlusconi's coalition Pole of Freedoms and by some Christian-democratic parties, and the outgoing mayor Valentino Castellani, supported by Romano Prodi's coalition The Olive Tree.

The election took place in two rounds: the first on 13 May and the second on 27 May 2001.

The main candidates were Roberto Rosso, supported by Silvio Berlusconi's center-right coalition, and Sergio Chiamparino, supported by Francesco Rutelli's center-left coalition The Olive Tree.
