The Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science (MCCMS), formerly known as Mayo Clinic College of Medicine (MCCM), is a college of higher education based in Rochester, Minnesota that trains physicians, scientists, and allied health professionals. The college is part of the Mayo Clinic academic medical center and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). It is divided into five schools:
Drs. William and Charles Mayo endowed the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research (MFMER, or Mayo Foundation) in 1915 with $1.5 million from their personal funds. The endowment alllowed the Mayo Clinic to develop an academic medical center with graduate medical education and basic science research as major priorities (now represented alongside patient care in the Mayo Clinic three shields logo).
The Mayo Clinic has a long history of medical education, and was a pioneer in post-graduate education for doctors. Over the years the Mayo Clinic has added additional faculty and programs in biomedical and health sciences, which has evolved into the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
The Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science is based in Rochester, Minnesota, with additional campuses in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jacksonville, Florida.
