Mario A. Rivas (born December 24, 1954) is former president and CEO of semiconductor company ANADIGICS,Inc (ANAD). He has worked 30 years in the semiconductor business, he has spent much of his career in the wireless industry.
Rivas was born in San Salvador, El Salvador and attended Liceo Salvadoreño class of 1972. Rivas earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad Centroamericana "José Simeón Cañas" in 1977 and M.S. in Semiconductor Physics and M.S. in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1979.
Rivas worked for Texas Instruments and was part of the design team for the microprocessor powering Speak & Spell and the TI-55 family of digital calculators. Rivas moved to Motorola for 19 years with responsibilities in both semiconductor and wireless communication business rising to the position of Corporate Vice-President.
Rivas managed the wireless communications business of Philips Semiconductor as well as its foundry operations, purchasing, and assembly and test with headquarters in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Rivas served as a representative director on the board of TSMC.
Rivas returned to the United States and joined Advanced Micro Devices in Austin, Texas as Corporate Vice-President for Strategy Management in 2005, later promoted to Executive Vice-President for of the Computing Product Groups in late 2006 managing all aspects of the microprocessor business. Prior to ANADIGICS, he was the CEO of Quartics, a fabless semiconductor and software company based in Irvine, CA.
