Marcel Bezençon (1 May 1907, Orbe, Vaud, Switzerland - 17 February 1981, Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland) was until 1970 the director of the European Broadcasting Union. In 1955 he conceived the idea of the Eurovision Song Contest based on the famous Sanremo Festival.
The Marcel Bezençon Awards were founded by Christer Björkman (Melodifestivalen winner and Swedish ESC-participant 1992) and Richard Herrey – (Swedish ESC – winner 1984).
