In the 2006and 2001state assembly elections, Bansari Mohan Kanji of CPI(M) won the 121 Magrahat East (SC) seat defeating his nearest rival Namita Saha of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Nirmal Sinha of CPI(M) defeated Namita Saha representing Congress in 1996and 1991. Radhika Ranjan Pramanik of CPI(M) defeated Manoranjan Haldar of Congress in 1987, Nirmal Kanti Mondal of Congress in 1982 and Manoranjan Haldar of Congress in 1977.
