The album includes cover versions of other artists hits, including the Everly Brothers' "Bye Bye Love", and another well-known song, "Release Me".
The album peaked on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart at No. 1, becoming the duo's first album to top that chart. The album also charted on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 153. The lead single, "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man", was the duo's third single, and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Recording sessions for the album took place at Bradley's Barn in Mount Juliet, TN, beginning on March 6 and March 7, 1973. Three additional sessions followed on April 3, April 4, and April 5, 1973.
