"Lockup" is the fifth episode of the fourth season of the American television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division), revolving around the character of Phil Coulson and his team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as they attempt a prison breakout. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The episode was written by Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman, and directed by Kate Woods.
Clark Gregg reprises his role as Coulson from the film series, and is joined by series regulars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Henry Simmons.
"Lockup" originally aired on ABC on October 25, 2016, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 4.55 million viewers within a week of its release.
Visiting Joseph before he dies from the mystical infection, Coulson and Mack learn Lucy has found the Darkhold. However the Darkhold refuses to display its words to her due to her ghostly state. While keeping Daisy and Robbie's involvement in their investigation secret from Mace, Coulson's team decide to extract Morrow from prison and interrogate him further. However upon arrival they find the three ghost scientists have already arrived and have infected the staff, who attack Coulson and May. Daisy, Mack and Robbie rescue them, using devices built by Fitz and Simmons to cure those infected, and Robbie destroys two of the ghosts.
