Local Kung Fu is an Assamese Kung fu comedy film directed by Kenny Basumatary and the second Assamese film to have a nationwide release. It has also been dubbed as India’s first Kung fu film. The plot revolves around Charlie, "an ordinary boy from Guwahati with a delicate stomach", his girlfriend and a number of madcap characters.
Charlie is living with his uncle and cousin, Johnny, in Guwahati. He had shifted from Tezpur, due to his girlfriend, Sumi, being sent away to Guwahati in an attempt by her father to keep them apart. Sumi is living with her uncle and aunty.
Charlie arrived at Sumi uncle, Bhobananda Das, house and introduce himself as Montu (a potential future husband of Sumi, which Sumi had earlier chased away). A local goons, headed by Koku, want to open a Liquor shop, but Bhobananda Das, an Excise Inspector, stand in their way. The gang try to bribes him, but Das refuse. The gang find clue of another gang, headed by Barua, bribing Das. Koku tries to cough up information from Barua, it turn out Das had decline Barua gang bribe too, and tell that Das is incorruptible. The gang resort to threaten his family. When they threaten Sumi, Charlie comes in between them. Koku and gang beat up Charlie.
On the other hand, Charlie cousin, Johnny, is being spoiled by two of his friend, Bonzo and KK by peer pressuring him into Alcohol and Tobacco. Charlie found out and decide to inform Bonzo and KK parent. In a twist, Koku turn out to be Bonzo and KK elder brother. Koku is amused at finding Charlie at his house, whom he had thrashed up before, nonetheless he allow Charlie to explain the purpose of his visit. Koku get furious at his brothers and hand them a punishment.
