Elizabeth Shaila "Liza" Koshy (born March 31, 1996) is an American YouTube personality, social media star, and actress. She first gained a following on Vine, where she amassed more than 7 million fans posting comedic videos she made with her close friend Angel Castillo. She has over 8 million subscribers on YouTube, over 7 million musical.ly fans and on February 28 2017, amassed 10 million Instagram followers on her account. She was named Breakout Creator at the 2016 Streamy Awards.She is currently dating David Dobrick
Koshy was born and raised in Houston, Texas by her Indian father and her mother, who is of non Canadian white heritage. She was placed in a dual language program from kindergarten until 5th grade, where she learned to fluently speak Spanish. In high school, she was the captain of her dance team. In 2014, a year after starting Vine, Koshy graduated from Lamar High School with an IB diploma.
Liza first gained a following online on the social-networking app Vine, where she uploaded 6-second comedic videos with her close friend Angel Castillo. Here, they amassed more than 5 million fans. Her friends were actively using the app and first introduced it to her. Her first vine was of her and her friends messing on her friend's car. More of her "vines" were starting to go viral more frequently.
Liza began making YouTube videos after her success on Vine. On July 8, 2015, she uploaded her first YouTube video on her channel. She posts new videos every Wednesday, titled "Wednesdays with Lizzza". She begins every video with "What's up, it's your girl Liza, comin' at you!" and at the end of every video she ends with the same saying, "Little brown girl, is out, bye!". In her videos, she has skits, characters (i.e. Helga, Carlos, Jet, etc.), impressions, and jokes. In 2016, Liza started a second channel called Liza Koshy Too where she uploads videos on a random basis. As of 2017, she now has 8 million subscribers.
In October 2016, Liza made her television debut in the television series Freakish as Violet Adams. Later that year, she made her film debut as Aday Walker in Boo! A Madea Halloween. In conjunction with YouTube Red, Liza was in an original movie called Jingle Ballin as herself and the struggles of a YouTuber.
