Elizabeth "Liza" Koshy (born March 31, 1996) is an American actress and YouTube personality.
Koshy stars in the Hulu original television series Freakish as Violet Adams, and she played The Explorer in the YouTube Red series Escape the Night (2017). She began co-hosting MTV's Total Request Live in October 2017. As of September 2017, Koshy's main YouTube channel has more than 11 million subscribers and more than 1 billion views, making it the 87th most subscribed channel on the platform. She won Streamy Awards in both 2016 and 2017 and a Teen Choice Award in 2017.
Koshy began posting comic videos on the Vine platform, in 2013, under the pseudonym "Lizzza". When Vine closed in 2017, Koshy had over 5 million followers. By 2016, Koshy was also becoming noted on the YouTube platform. In November 2016, just before the 2016 election, Koshy interviewed president Barack Obama on her YouTube channel to encourage voter registration. Koshy's videos feature "her loud facial expressions, quick pace, and her commitment to looking as ridiculous as possible as the joke demands. [Some of her videos] take serious issues – like anxiety, the pressure to fit in, and internet trolls – and make them accessible and engaging for her viewers."
In 2017, Koshy became "the fastest YouTube personality to reach 10 million subscribers". As of September 2017, her main YouTube channel has over 11 million subscribers and more than 1 billion views, making it the 87th most subscribed channel on the platform. Videos on her channel receive an average of nearly 10 million views. As of the same month, her second YouTube channel had approximately 5 million subscribers, she had more than 13 million followers on Instagram, more than 2.5 million on Facebook and more than 1.4 million on Twitter. By August 2017, her total social media penetration was approximately 45 million followers.
In 2016, Koshy starred in the Hulu original series Freakish as Violet Adams, and she is set to reprise the role in the show's second season in 2017. Also in 2016, she played the role of Aday in the feature film, Boo! A Madea Halloween, and a character in a YouTube Red series, Jingle Ballin'. In 2017 she played a recurring character, The Explorer, in another YouTube Red series, Escape the Night.
