Live Album is the first live album by American hard rock band Grand Funk Railroad, originally released by Capitol Records on November 16, 1970. The first single released from the album, "Mean Mistreater", was released on November 23 and the second, "Inside Looking Out", was released in January 1971.

The album was originally released as a double album on the LP format. Subsequent reissues of the album on the compact disc format have been both double and single disc sets.

The raw energy of these live performances was captured without the use of any re-mixing, over-dubs or enhanced audio engineering. This "direct recording" method leaves a bit to be desired from a technical standpoint, but showcases the band in a live environment and never lets up in its effort to convey GFR's raw power as well as a sense of "being there" at a Grand Funk event.

The album's gatefold cover depicts a photograph of the band at the Atlanta International Pop Festival during the weekend of the 4th of July 1970, but none of the music was actually recorded there. After the last major tour show, it was realized that every recording had problems due to doors slamming from people coming & going in each venue. At the last minute, a show was booked at Robarts Arena in Sarasota, Florida by Gulf Artists Productions and guards were posted at each exit in case of emergencies with keys & the doors were locked. The entire album was recorded there. The intro of the band was by Carl Sundberg who almost followed the directions of Terry Knight, who instructed him to say, "Here is the group you have been waiting to hear, Grand Funk Railroad!" The over excited DJ from local radio station WYND, who used the radio name, Jim E. Mikels at the time, substituted the word "hear" with the word, "see." The mystery about where it was actually recorded has been kept secret all these years, apparently out of fear it would hamper sales if people who saw the show at larger venues realized it was not the show they attended. There were only about 1200 people at the show where it was recorded, a show opened by local band Bacus, followed by Bloodrock, who premiered their hit D.O.A. before it was released.
