Thailand divides its municipalities (thesaban) into three levels - cities (thesaban nakhon), towns (thesaban mueang) and townships (thesaban tambon). The national capital Bangkok (pop. 8,280,925: 2010) and the special governed city Pattaya (pop. 107,289: August 16, 2010) are outside of these divisions.
There are 32 cities as of January 2015. Two of them are self-governing districts.
There are 2,234 Townships as of September 2014.
