The second season of the Sword Art Online anime series, titled Sword Art Online II, was produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Tomohiko Itō. As with the rest of the series, it follows the adventures of Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya from Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online light novel series. It is divided into the "Phantom Bullet", "Calibur" and "Mother's Rosario" arcs. The episodes are each 24 minutes in length and adapts Kawahara's light novels from the fifth through the seventh volumes as well as parts of the eight volume. Having put an end to the SAO incident in 2024 and rescued Asuna Yuuki in Alfheim Online (ALO), Kirito's investigates about a series of murders happening in a virtual reality game called "Gun Gale Online" (GGO), while meeting several new allies as well his greatest enemy—a player known only as "Death Gun" with the ability to kill a person in the real world by killing their virtual avatar.
The 24-episode series initially ran in Japan from July 5 to December 20, 2014 on Tokyo MX with later airings on Chiba TV, tvk, Teleball, GYT, GTV, MBS, TVA, TVh, TVQ and BS11. The series was made available as a worldwide simulcast by Aniplex. It was also picked up by Crunchyroll for online simulcast streaming in North America and other select parts of the world.Daisuki will also stream the series in select European countries.
