The twentieth season of the long running Pokémon animated series is known as Pocket Monsters: Sun & Moon (ポケットモンスター サン&ムーン Poketto Monsutā: San & Mūn?) in Japan and internationally as Pokémon Sun and Moon (advertised as Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon). This season follows the continuing adventures of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu as they travel to the Alola region, go to Pokémon school, participate in the island trials, and learn how to use the power of Z-moves.
The season premiered in Japan on November 17, 2016 on TV Tokyo. The season is set to aired in the United States on May 12, 2017 on Disney XD. This is after a preview of the first two episodes on December 5, 2016 on Disney XD. The sneak peak of the first two episodes of the season premiered in the UK on CITV on November 20, 2016. This is the first season to air on Disney XD.
The Japanese opening song is "Alola!!" (アローラ!! Arōra!!?) by Rica Matsumoto with Ikue Otani. The Japanese ending song is "Pose" (ポーズ Pōzu?) by Taiiku Okazaki. The opening song for the English dub is "Under the Alolan Sun" by Jannel Candrice and The Sad Truth.
